The COLA International Symposium

Agenda & Format

During the Symposium, participants can expect to contribute and participate actively. This program will be focused on posing large probing questions and engaging the total participant body in small group dialogues. In our experience, new knowledge can emerge when intelligent, diverse, passionate thought leaders have the opportunity to meet and interact. Invitations to the event are based upon the criteria of subject knowledge, demonstrated leadership performance, and the desire to learn from others. The lines between presenters and participants will be interchangeable with presenters giving short talks to establish the theme and to stimulate dialogue, rather than a full-length customary presentation.

The Symposium dialogue will unfold under the following themes: 1) The Role of Laboratory Medicine in a World at Risk; 2) Looking Forward: Our Vision for Lab Quality Worldwide; 3) Closing the Gap: What Must Be Done to Achieve our Future Vision? (Including understanding the unique needs of countries/regions with emerging Systems); and 4) Building a Community of Action.

By way of example the following topic areas are being included to stimulate our discussions:
Pressing Needs: Our World Public Health Challenges & Priorities
Regional International Standardization Movement: Strengths and Relevancy to the World
Regional Case Study of an Emerging System: Unique Challenges
Uniqueness of the World: Technical, Environmental; Social; Challenges
Primary Care: Role of Laboratory Testing

In addition, panel discussions are being included in the program where individuals from the participant body will be invited to reflect upon the proceedings as they unfold.

The Symposium Methodology will be based on the World Café
